Yrp Uniform Working Agreement

The police service has struggled to control the rising cost of maintaining the police force. In 2015, 1,072 officers, or approximately 70 per cent of York`s uniformed force, were on the province`s payroll. The York Regional Police Association has ratified a four-year agreement with the police service after months of difficult negotiations that required the involvement of a mediator. Civilian employees and uniformed officers have been without contract since December 31. The new contract includes an annual salary increase of just under two percent over the term of the contract and increases in health services such as psychological services and chiropractic. Coverage extends to partners and relatives and begins on the first day of employment. Currently, 30 cents of every tax dollar paid by York Region residents goes to the police. Member benefits include extended health insurance. Extended health insurance includes, among other benefits: York Regional Police offers its members one of the most competitive compensation plans among Canadian police services.
